Fellow firefighter Kimberly Clark says Texas Forest Service personnel were responding to reports of a brush fire when Goins was discovered dead late Thursday afternoon. An agency spotter plane had been investigating smoke in the area.
Fire Chief Jerry LaSalle says Goins had been with the department since 1988.
