"I just heard shots," one neighbor said.
"I heard about five to six gunshots," another said.
Police say 40-year-old Keith Brown had come to his front door to ask who was outside when the suspect started firing through the door, hitting Brown several times.
"Soon as I heard the gunshots, I looked out my window and I see people running from his house -- about six men or six to four men. They jump in the car and leave," a neighbor said.
Brown died at the hospital. Police say his wife and three children -- ages 2, 9 and 16 -- were not hurt.
For fear of retaliation, many neighbors would not talk on camera, but told Eyewitness News they would like to find out what led to the deadly shooting.
"He had little altercations with people around here, but we just let it die," a neigbor said.
"I think it makes you really want to be more overprotective of your family since it's so close to home. You really don't know what's happening around you, so it's kind of like a wake-up call," neighbor Lyn Smith said.
Police are not discussing a motive at this time, but are asking anyone with any information in this case to contact them.
