The Houston Fire Department arrived around 8:30pm Friday and found flames shooting from a vacant apartment on the third floor of the building.
Officials said the burning apartment was behind other ones and difficult to access. About 35 firefighters were called out to battle the flames because authorities worried it would spread quickly and get out of control.
The flames spread to the attic, but firefighters managed to get the blaze under control before it moved to other units.
One unit ended up with major fire damage, and three had smoke and water damage.
No injuries were reported.
Arson investigators determined the fire was started by teens who were playing in the vacant apartment. Officials are working to figure out how they started the blaze.
It was unknown Saturday if any charges had been filed.
