He had been beaten on the head with some sort of blunt object, officials said.
Deputies from the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, Kennefick Fire Department and Liberty County EMS responded to the scene.
Emergency personnel said the man was transported to an area hospital. His condition was unknown Sunday.
There are no known witness, no suspect and no known motive for this assault.
