Investigators say alcohol played a role in a major accident in north Houston. It happened on the North Freeway and New Haven last night. Police say the driver of a Mustang was speeding down the feeder when he lost control, ran off the road and slammed into a business sign.

The impact shredded the car, sending the engine in one direction, the seats in another direction and the shell of the car in a third direction. The man driving the car slid in his seat across the parking lot. The woman riding with him was also thrown out of the car.

Amazingly, both were transported to the hospital, conscious and alert. Police tell us the driver had been drinking.
