Police: Man lied about killing father-in-law

HOUSTON

John James O'Neill, 41, is being held at the Pearland City Jail until his scheduled bond hearing Friday morning, according to a Pearland Police Department statement.

Detectives say O'Neill was drunk when he got into a fight with his wife Thursday night at their Pearland home in the 2000 block of O'Day, His wife left the home and checked into a nearby hotel. But later, O'Neill allegedly called her and told her he had murdered her father, who also was staying at the home.

O'Neill's wife called police, who then went to their home and found her dad to be in good health.

Police arrested O'Neill at the scene.
