Court appearance for woman accused of stealing from elderly

HOUSTON Kristen Bonnee, 27, is being held on a $65,000 bond. Prosecutors say she took advantage of 91-year-old Geraldine Wellman, who is blind, by having Wellman sign off on checks written for amounts above her normal salary.

Two others, Howard Smith and Monica Monique Peters are also charged with theft along with Bonnee. They did not appear in court today.

Smith turned himself in on Tuesday night. His attorney said today his client is innocent.

"We have documentation to show from at least one of the co-defendants that he had absolutely nothing to do with this, and if anything he was an innocent pawn," said attorney Frank Rush.

Peters is free on bond. She will make a court appearance on December 13.
