Detectives probe woman's shooting death

HOUSTON Homicide detectives were speaking with witnesses Saturday evening, trying to piece together the details of the murder.

Police found 24-year-old Lina Ortega-Ruiz around 9pm Friday in the parking lot of a gas station on West Airport and Bob White. She was unconscious and lying in the ground by a Cadillac sedan.

Detectives say Ortega-Ruiz was shot in the back and believe the woman was passenger inside that car. She was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.

"Come up with the killer. Come up with something, at least the killer," neighbor Rosalind Wilson. "Get the leads on something. Let the perpetrator pay."

Police collected shell casings from the scene but are still trying to determine whether the woman was actually shot somewhere else and driven to the gas station. Detectives also are using surveillance video to help solve the case.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
