Sugar Land accepts cooking oil for recycling

SUGAR LAND, TX Pouring the oil down the sink can lead to problems within the sanitary sewer system. Pouring used cooking oil on the ground may kill grass, and pouring it into the storm drain is illegal.

So, what can be done with the used cooking oil? Recycle it!

Used cooking oil can be recycled at the Public Works Office Recycling Center, 111 Gillingham Lane. Residents are welcome to bring their used cooking oil to the recycling center during normal business hours and may dispose of 10 gallons of oil per day at no charge.

Oil should be placed in a plastic or glass container for transport. Residents must pour the oil directly into the cooking oil storage container. Empty plastic or glass containers can be recycled utilizing the recycle bin next to the storage container.

Cooking oil should not be confused with used motor oil, which is not accepted at this time. The two different oils should not be mixed, as it will render them both non-recyclable.
