Dyer drops out of Texas congressional race

IOWA PARK, TX Keith Dyer ceased campaigning Tuesday, but his name will remain on the Nov. 2 ballot for U.S. House District 13.

Secretary of State's Office spokesman Randall Dillard says the deadline to remove a name from the ballot was Aug. 20.

Dyer says his office received an e-mail Tuesday from the elections agency in response to a question about his eligibility. The agency's website says an independent candidate may have his or her name added to the general election ballot if he or she is not affiliated with a political party.

The Wichita Falls Times Record News reports GOP Rep. Mac Thornberry of Clarendon says he called Dyer about the issue last week.
