Suspect pulls gun on animal control officer

HOUSTON It was a pit bull-boxer mix named Blue who brought the officer out to a tire shop on Treaschwig near Banquo in northeast Harris County. Animal control told us the dog bit someone on Sunday. The officer was just trying to make sure it had been quarantined so it could be checked for rabies.

We're told the owner was not cooperating, and while the officer was waiting for deputies to help, the owner and another man pointed a gun at his head and threatened him.

"This officer has actually been trained through the academy so he knows how to deal with situations like this. He's got a law enforcement background, so he knew how to deal with this situation. That's was very, very fortunate," said Dr. Dawn Blackmar of the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services.

The two men were arrested. An investigation is still underway.

Those who remained at the business after the deputies left were combative and asked us to leave. The dog will remain in quarantine for 10 days after which the owner can claim it.
