Friends and family mourn popular barber

HOUSTON Friends and family of James "Jody" Little told us that he knew no stranger and that he welcomed everyone into his home. Last Friday, he was beaten to death and police still have no suspects.

The crime scene tape still surrounds the house on Lake Road. The home that was once open to anyone is now boarded shut and Barbara Ann McCoy is left wondering whether her brother's generous nature is what killed him.

"If they needed something he would give it to them," said McCoy.

A family member found Little, 62, dead inside his home last Friday afternoon. La Marque police say he died from trauma to his head and body. Neighbor Jacob McNeese had just seen him that morning.

"It wasn't called for," said McNeese.

Little was the neighborhood barber. He used his house as his shop, sold sodas cheap out of an old machine on his porch, and often gave food and other things away for free.

"He was a really good guy and helped everybody," McNeese said.

It's what makes his murder even more confounding.

"Why would you kill him and brutally murder him? Why?" asked McCoy.

Police are looking for leads. Whoever killed Little knew him, since there was no forced entry. Investigators say some items were missing, but they haven't determined a motive. His sister hopes someone can help.

"If they were trying to hurt us, they did. You hurt me, my mother and you hurt my nieces and nephews," said McCoy. "I just want them to find the person who killed my brother."

James Little was known to friends and family as "Jody." His funeral is set for Saturday.

If you have any information on this case, you are asked to call La Marque Crime Stoppers at 409-938-8477. There is a reward for information leading to an arrest.
