Firefighters, their families, and city leaders attended the annual ceremony at the Firefighters' Memorial Garden in north Houston. The garden has a wall with the name of every Houston firefighter who died serving others.

"The men and women engraved in this wall, they responded to somebody they never met, tried to protect something they never owned. They knew their job. They did their job. They did it with honor and valor, and we miss them terribly," said Chief Phil Boriskie of the Houston Fire Department.

Eyewitness News Meteorologist Casey Curry emceed the service.
