Congressman's wife to be released from hospital

HOUSTON Spokesman Jesse Benton tells The Associated Press that 72-year-old Carol Paul will be released Tuesday night. He says her condition has improved and "she is alert and talking." The couple plans to return to their nearby home.

Benton is not giving further details about procedures for Carol Paul, who was hospitalized August 11.

A congressman from Lake Jackson, Ron Paul was the Libertarian Party nominee for president in 1988 and ran unsuccessfully for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination. His campaign, which was a sensation on the Internet, drew support from Republicans, independents and Democrats.
