Amy Winehouse admitted to hospital emergency room in London

Winehouse spokesman Chris Goodman says an ambulance took the singer from her north London home to the emergency room at University College Hospital. He says he did not know why Winehouse had been taken to hospital.

Winehouse's musical success has been overshadowed by her tumultuous private life and public struggles with drugs and alcohol.

Her father has said she developed early stage emphysema from smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine.
