Attempted carjacking erupts into gunfire

HOUSTON Deputies say two gunmen approached the victim and a woman, who were inside a minivan in the back of the Best Classic Inn and Suites near Rankin Circle West at Rankin Rd. When the men demanded the keys to the van, a struggle followed and the driver was shot in the abdomen.

"Ran up through the balconies and when he came back, they were already gone," said Sgt. C.A. Leithner with the Harris County Sheriff's Department. "He tried to drive up here and he was stopped by a security guard. That's about the time we got here."

Deputies are looking for the two gunmen, as well as the woman who was inside the minivan. No word on how the victim is doing.
