DWI crackdown held over weekend

HOUSTON They just wrapped up a "No Refusal Weekend." Extra patrols were out looking for drunk drivers. Those who refused to take a breathalyzer were ordered to give a blood sample. Prosecutors and judges were on hand to quickly write up a search warrant for the samples.

"The people of Harris County have a right to be safe when they're driving around," said Harris County Assistant DA Doug Richards. "We've come to a point right now where I am going to go to court with a sample one way or another with or without somebody's consent."

Officials set it up several times a year. This weekend was chosen because of Saint Patrick's Day, spring break, and the Rodeo.

The DA's office says it has a 100 percent conviction rate during these no refusal weekends.
