HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Crime Stoppers of Houston has officially opened the doors to its new Dave Ward Building.



Named for legendary ABC13 anchor Dave Ward, the three-story 28,000-square-foot facility at 3001 Main Street in Midtown will serve as a hub for centralized Crime Stoppers operations, staff, volunteers, law enforcement, safe community/safe school programming and media outreach teams.

Crime Stoppers of Houston has officially opened the doors to its new Dave Ward Building.


The building's entire first floor is designed to be used as a community gathering space, and will be available for community use at no charge. It includes a 2,500-square-foot multi-purpose community center, a victim's family services room a press conference room and media editing areas.

A secure area is available for law enforcement officers to operate day-to-day operations for the anonymous Crime Stoppers Tip Line Program.



Outside the building, a 12,800-square-foot Harris County Sheriff's Officers Memorial Garden pays tribute to the city's fallen officers.



The ribbon cutting ceremony was well-attended by approximately 150 local and state officials, including Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, Houston Police Department Chief Art Acevedo, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and, of course, Dave Ward himself.
