3 appeal firings after inmate death in Houston

HOUSTON

The Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday that recently obtained civil service records confirm the August dismissals of Joseph Jameson, Christopher Pool and Christopher Taylor.

A grand jury declined to indict anyone in the January 2011 death of 72-year-old Norman Ford Hicks Sr. Investigators say Hicks died of complications from a heart attack after suffering blunt head trauma and a broken nose.

Investigators have said Hicks caused a disturbance and threw a waste-soiled shirt on or near a jailer. A termination letter says Pool admitted he then slugged Hicks in the face.

Hicks was jailed for probation violation related to assault on a family member.
