Vanessa's family is sharing what she was like growing up, her love for sports and soccer, and how her compassion and love for others led her to the Army.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen vanished on April 22, 2020 from Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.

Her family searched for 69 days, pleading for answers and help.

Vanessa was found on June 30, 2020 - dismembered and burned.

The family came to Houston from Mexico in search of a better life, and forced the most powerful military in the world to change because of what happened to their daughter.

One year later, her family is sharing their story of grief, anger, and action in the ABC13 Original "Vanessa Guillen: Remember Her Name". In part one, Vanessa's family is sharing what she was like growing up, her love for sports and soccer, and how her compassion and love for others led her to the Army.
