Five things you didn't know about Captain William Dowling

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- As hundreds gather to pay their final respects on Wednesday to Captain William Dowling, we're remembering the life of a Houston hero.

Capt. "Iron Bill" Dowling died last Tuesday surrounded by his family. He was seriously injured in the 2013 Southwest Inn motel fire that killed four HFD firefighters.

Here are some things you didn't know about Capt. Dowling:

1. Graduate of Klein Oak High School

2. Has three children from his wife, Jacki

3. Dowling worked for the Houston Fire Department for 13 years

4. Earned the nickname, "Iron Bill," by fighting back from his injuries sustained during the motel fire

5. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces as a member of the Marine Corps
