HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect north of Houston until 8 p.m. It includes the following counties in the ABC13 viewing region: Brazos, Grimes, Walker, Trinity, Polk, and San Jacinto.
Wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible in the strongest storms with quarter size hail a secondary threat.
These storms should weaken some on their approach to the I-10 corridor, but we believe there is a 70% chance they hold together and bring Houstonians rain. The will most likely fizzle out before reaching most of our coastal communities.
We believe this is the last solid line of thunderstorms to impact Southeast Texas for several days, but a few thunderstorms could pop in the afternoon warmth Friday as the sea breeze circulation pushes north from the coast.
Our atmosphere will dry out and heat up over the weekend with highs approaching 90 degrees. Factor in the humidity, and it will feel like it's in the 90s most day this week. Rain chances are only 10% or less.
Monday and Tuesday will be similar to the weekend with warm, humid weather and a less than 20% chance for rain. We expect an unsettled weather pattern to return by Wednesday and continue through the rest of the week. These storms will form ahead of a weak cool front blowing in for the first weekend of May.
