Precinct 6 withholds records in fatal crash despite state ruling for their release

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Nearly a year after a deadly wrong-way crash, a former Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable is charged with manslaughter and is in custody.

Records show Rigo Vivar was booked at the Harris County Jail on Tuesday.

Investigators say Vivar was driving the wrong way down Canal Street last year, on Aug. 24, when he slammed into 28-year-old Ricardo Resendez Jr., killing him.

Vivar was an off-duty Harris County Precinct 6 deputy during the incident. He was terminated, and at the time, no charges were filed.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed an arrest warrant was filed back on June 30, and Vivar was charged with manslaughter.

This comes after family and friends of Resendez called for criminal charges to be filed.

"It could be another family in the future, and we want to prevent this for everyone," his mother, Blanca Estela Marquez, said in 2024.
