Police: Videos may link Baton Rouge shooter to Houston
BATON ROUGE, LA (KTRK) -- The gunman suspected in the deaths of three Baton Rouge police officers may have a Houston connection.
Investigators are probing the social media accounts of 29-year-old Gavin Eugene Long, who police say opened fire on six officers, killing three of them before he was himself shot and killed.
No motive is known as of yet, but police say they hope a collection of videos online might lead them to discover why he did this.
In one of the videos, Long says he is recording from a Houston hotel room. In the video he discusses religion, specifically being Christian and Muslim.
He does not use his real name, but a pseudonym calling himself Cosmo Setepenra.
ABC News has learned Long filed a document in Jackson County, Missouri in May 2015 to legally change his name to Cosmo Setepenra -- as well as to declare himself a member of the United Washitaw de Dugdahmoundyah Mu'ur Nation, Mid-West Washita Tribes.
"I want to get this message to my people out there, with all of the stuff going on right now," Long says. "This is my message to you: Don't get emotional about it. When you make decisions based off emotion, that emotion dies, then that fuel dies."
The day before the well-planned ambush, Long tweeted what would be his last message.
Investigators raided Longs' home in Kansas City, Missouri for clues.
Detectives have not yet revealed what they found.
We want to make it clear, it is not confirmed that Long was actually in Houston when he made these videos.
We are also looking more into when those clips were posted online.
