Police: Intoxicated mother pushing newborn in stroller facing charges

HUMBLE, TX

At about 6pm Tuesday, Humble police say a witness reported seeing a woman, later identified as Sandra Grohmann, pushing a stroller in the 1200 block of S. Houston Avenue. The witness said Grohmann appeared intoxicated as she was pushing a baby about five feet away from a busy roadway, and even fell down, causing the stroller to tip over. The baby, about one month old, fell out of the stroller when it fell over.

Officers arrived on the scene and determined that Grohmann, who said she is the baby's mother, was intoxicated. Humble EMS checked the baby for any injuries on the scene.

Grohmann, 29, was taken into custody by the Humble Police Department and charged with endangering a child. The baby was released to the custody of Children's Protective Services.

"It's really frustrating. I wouldn't do that with my four-month-old so that's very heartbreaking," concerned parent Taneka Smith said.

Grohmann is behind held behind bars on a $20,000 bond. She is expected to appear before a judge Friday morning.
