Highway 290 reopens hours after fiery crash near Barker Cypress exit

HOUSTON

The accident happened at 12:50am. The Cy-Fair fire department says the 18-wheeler hauling what appears to be apples crashed into the concrete wall. The truck burst into flames and the rig driver died at the scene. A passenger was ejected and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

There's no word on what caused the crash and no other vehicles were involved.

At least 250 gallons of diesel spilled on the roadway and Harris County HazMat and Harris County pollution were called to the scene.

It took crews more than 17 hours to clean up the spill.

Drivers were forced to exit off of 290 at Barker Cypress and get back on at Telge.
