Tanker crash delays trains in New Jersey

The tanker burst into flames after colliding with a car on McCarter Highway adjacent to Amtrak's Northeast Corridor rail line in Newark at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday. That caused problems for Amtrak's signals and overhead wires.

Amtrak service is running with minor delays.

New Jersey Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says Raritan Valley Line service is suspended. The commuter railroad's Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains are operating with delays of up to 30 minutes.

Westbound trains along the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line are not stopping between Newark Airport and Rahway.

Buses and PATH are honoring NJ Transit rail tickets.

Police are investigating the crash.
