Thirsty beer thief tries to hitch ride from new friends in north Houston

HOUSTON

The suspect allegedly tried to steal a beer from the Love's truck stop on Patton along the North Freeway around 1am. Authorities say when the security guard confronted him, the suspect pulled out a gun and the guard let him go.

Police say the suspect got away in a waiting car. Moments later, that same car returned and the two people inside led police to the suspect.

"Officers went to that location and located the male walking down the street," said Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department. "They told the male to stop, at which point he took off running. At one point, he threw a gun on the ground."

Officers caught the man after a short foot chase. The two people in the car told police they met the guy at a bar earlier and were just giving him a ride. They had no idea he had robbed the store.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated robbery.
