Twitter plea helps Crosby senior get date with cheerleader

CROSBY, TX

Ramirez says he never thought an idea he dreamed up during English class was realistic.

"And I came up with the idea, man it would be nice to take a Texans cheerleader to prom with me," he said.

So the high school senior and backup varsity football player messaged Caitlyn, a cheerleader for the Houston Texans, asking for a date if he got 10,000 retweets.

"I thought it was the sweetest thing ever and I immediately said yes and I confirmed with my coach and the Texans and it took off from there," Caitlyn said.

Mike's friends say he's a nice guy, but most didn't give him a shot, but fortunately, they were proven wrong.

Friend "I thought she was going to blow it off because she's a Houston Texans cheerleader right? Yes, she's a professional and he's just a high school student," said Mike's friends Colten Watley.

Within 24 hours, the 17-year-old exceeded his goal, and true to her word, Caitlyn, 20, is going to the Crosby High School prom.

"It's going to be a fun night, I'm really looking forward to it," she said.

And with one viral Tweet, Mike says he's learned one valuable lesson.

"No matter how your dreams seem out of reach -- they're never out of reach, you can't hit until you swing, so chase your dreams," he said.

The Crosby High School prom is on May 10 at the Museum of Natural Science.
