The 19-year-old woman said she was beaten and sexually assaulted by several men either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning somewhere between campus and the neighboring community of Isla Vista.
Sheriff's deputies are trying to identify the suspects. They say the victim returned home before being taken to the hospital. She has since been released and is now with her family.
The university used text and email alerts to inform students of the alleged attack.
