Former executive of Texas hospital chain indicted

TYLER, TX

A federal judge in Tyler on Thursday arraigned 66-year-old Joe White of Cameron on charges of aggravated identity theft and making false statements to federal authorities. White, who didn't immediately enter a plea, worked for Dallas-area physician Tariq Mahmood.

A phone message left for White wasn't immediately returned Friday. Prosecutors had no information on whether White was in custody or has an attorney.

Mahmood previously pleaded not guilty to health care billing fraud and aggravated identity theft counts.

Prosecutors say White used another person's information and in 2012 falsely said Shelby Regional Medical Center met required electronic health records requirements.

Regulators last year halted funding for Renaissance Hospital in Terrell and it closed.
