It happened around 2:30am on Hillcroft near the rail crossing on South Main.
He was hit by a Union Pacific freight train and killed instantly.
Police say the crossing arms were down and the railroad lights and sirens were working, but the driver drove around them.
Officers say it's not clear why he maneuvered around the crossing gates or didn't see the train.
The man's name has not been released.
