School district in west Texas fires coach charged with indecency

PADUCAH, TX

Trustees with the Paducah Independent School District on Monday night fired 43-year-old Jay Cantrell.

Cantrell was put on paid administrative leave after being arrested Friday night in Terry County and freed on $200,000 bond. He faces four counts of indecency with a child and one count of sexual assault. A statement on the school district website said the allegations were raised by students.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Daniel Hawthorne says the investigation began Dec. 21. Further details on the case weren't immediately released.

Paducah is 120 miles northeast of Lubbock.
