Off-duty officer injured trying to break up fight at Walmart in NW Harris County

HOUSTON

It happened just after 7:30pm at a Walmart in the 6000 block of Fry Road.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, two female shoppers were locked into a fight when two off-duty officers -- one with the Houston Police Department and the other with Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office-- jumped in to break up the fight. However, at least one of the women turned on the off-duty deputy constable.

"The off-duty officer tried to stop her so she attacked her. And then the HPD cop came and got her, and suddently she got a little loose and attacked her again. I think they said she busted her head open," witness Angel Griffin said.

The deputy was injured and transported to a hospital to be checked out. We're not yet sure of the extent of her injuries. The HPD officer was uninjured in the brawl.

We're told both officers were working an extra job at the Walmart.

It wasn't immediately clear if either of the shoppers was taken into custody, or whether any charges will be filed in the incident,
