Deadlines loom for Texas seeking health care

DALLAS, TX

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins attended recent meetings with federal officials over rollout of the new law. Jenkins says he senses enrollment numbers are picking up.

Records show about 14,000 Texans enrolled for insurance coverage in October and November on the federal online exchange. The Dallas Morning News reports an enrollment rush is likely tied to a deadline this week to get insurance for next month.

Louis Adams with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas says Monday is the last day to sign up for coverage starting Jan. 1. Open enrollment continues through March 31. The newspaper reports the company added 500 customer-assistance representatives this month to help handle calls.
