Kids list top toys for holiday season; many ideas under $20

HOUSTON

A group of fifth graders has been surveying all age groups at Longfellow Elementary since October. They used math skills to analyze their data and tally the results.

"The younger grades were a lot more open to any toys, but when you got to the older grades you got a lot more choosey and picky," teacher Danica Kasner said.

And weeks of research rendered these results: For girls, Password Journal came in at number one, followed by Easy Bake oven and the Hot Huez.

"I would not like to get to girly, girly, like Barbies and stuff like that. I would stick with some creative fun things, I love art, I love to play the piano, instrumental things," fifth grader Melody Fuentes said.

Okay, nothing wrong with being creative, but let's not underestimate the power of a super hero, which toped the boys' list with Iron Man, Batman and Legos.

"Because these are what super heroes do. They play, they have fun. This flag makes it work in different types of ways, so it's really cool," toy tester Katilyn McElroy said.

Many of the gifts were under $20 to help keep that Christmas budget in check.
