HPD: Man fatally stabs wife after argument in southeast Houston

HOUSTON

Investigators have not officially released the name of the victim. Her friends tell us she was 43 years old and was working as a caretaker.

The attack happened around 7:45am, shortly after she showed up for work in the 3700 block of Delano near West Alabama in the Third Ward. As part of her job, she would watch over and care for an 82-year-old man who lived by himself.

The victim reportedly showed up with her husband, and it was in the kitchen where the couple began arguing.

Witnesses said the suspect was accusing the victim of cheating on him. Police said the argument escalated, and that's when it turned deadly.

"Witness heard her screaming that she was being stabbed," HPD Sgt. W. L. Meeler said. "He saw this individual leave the residence and flee the area."

"She's a good person. She took care of him whether she was being paid for or not," friend Janet Celestine said. "It's just sad."

The 82-year-old man inside the home was not injured. His family tells us he is devastated that he couldn't do anything to protect his caretaker.

Police identified the suspect as 52-year-old Herman Johnson. He was in custody Sunday night after turning himself in to police.
