Heavy rain causes problems for some commuters

HOUSTON

The weather slowed up traffic this morning, and at Highway 59 and the North Loop, a couple feet of water backed up, creating a hazard for cars. Two cars got stuck in that water before police had a chance to block off the road.

Once the pumps kicked on, the water drained quickly, but the vehicles had stalled and had to be towed out.

Elsewhere, drivers encountered wet roads and traffic slowdowns, pounded by heavy rain, along with thunder and lightning. The cold front made it presence with a vengeance.

"Just really slow lots of rain. We took the kids to the day care, and it was crazy. A lot of water was pouring down," said commuter Alex Torres.

"Cops were stopping people from driving everywhere, and a lot of thunder," said another commuter.

There were at least three reports of high water on roadways and that is no longer an issue for the west side of town. The rain has stopped and the water has receded.
