HOUSTON

It happened near Beltway 8 and Lockwood Friday afternoon. According to law enforcement officials, the DPS trooper spotted two stolen vehicles. He got out of his unmarked patrol vehicle to confront them, but left the keys in the ignition and vehicle running.

One of the suspects fled on foot and the trooper chased after him. The other suspect then reportedly jumped into the vehicle and took off near Jensen and Bennington.

"Just to hear that a suspect is on the loose makes me leery about going outside and makes me extra cautious about my son and my sister," said nearby resident Chacathron Cahee.

The incident prompted forced a lockdown at schools all along Lockwood and the Beltway. Those lockdowns lasted for about 40 minutes.

The unmarked DPS truck that was stolen was found around 9:15pm Friday, officials said. The truck was spotted on the street blocking a driveway in the 11300 block of Harbor Court in Humble. The truck's keys were still in the ignition and the three firearms were recovered.

The suspect remains on the loose.
