Man known as 'Joker' convicted of beating, burning woman

HOUSTON

Garrick Hastings is known as "the Joker" because of the tattoos on his face. He was on trial for aggravated assault in the beating of Melissa Burch.

Hastings and two other people kidnapped Burch after an argument over money. Authorities say the trio then took her to an empty trailer, tied her up and beat her with a pipe.

Burch survived and helped identify her attackers.

The same jury that convicted Hastings is now hearing testimony in the punishment phase.
