The city received four grants worth more than $6.5 million that will go to completing four major hike and bike trail projects. One project will tie into an ongoing flood control project on Hunting Bayou. The other projects will connect existing trails, parks, bus and METRO rail stops to neighborhoods along Brays Bayou.
Houston Mayor Annise Parker said, "We are moving dirt today. We are already engaged in building those trails across the community."
The four projects are expected to cost $12 million. The mayor says the other $6 million not covered by grant money will come from public and private funds.
