Two men are dead after the car in which they were riding veered out of control after hitting a rural Panhandle railroad crossing, veered out of control into a ditch, overturned and burned.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports the crash happened Saturday evening on a rural road between Canyon and Amarillo. DPS Trooper Daniel Hawthorne says the car apparently was traveling at high speed when it hit the railroad crossing.

Hawthorne says neither Kristopher Keith Shoemaker of Canyon, the 26-year-old driver, nor his 24-year-old passenger Cecil Coulten of Canyon wore seatbelts when the crash happened.
