Boy, 3, drowns at NW Houston apartment pool

HOUSTON

Kisla Thomas doesn't know exactly what happened, but a cheerful afternoon at the pool of her apartment complex on Tidwell and Antoine quickly turned tragic when a three-year-old boy got in trouble in the water.

Family and friends pulled him out and quickly started CPR, while Thomas talked to a 911 operator.

"Everybody was playing, running around the pool and everything and next thing you know, they were screaming and hollering, saying 'Please save my baby,'" she said. "I was trying to tell them how to do CPR because I was on the phone with the 911 lady."

The boy was transported to the hospital, but according to police, he didn't survive.

This wouldn't be the only pool tragedy. Within the same hour just two miles away at Tidwell and Guhn, a nine-year-old boy almost drowned in the deep end of his apartment pool. Patricia Mason and a maintenance man heard the screamed for the boy's mother and quickly ran to help.

"The gentleman jumped in, the maintenance guy, and pulled him, and we started CPR with the maintenance guys and the other guy took over so I could call 911," said witness Patricia Mason.
