Brandon Lee Scott, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Second Class, has been ordered to federal prison for 37 months for using a government-issued credit card to purchase items for his own benefit, United States Attorney's Office announced Monday. He pleaded guilty back in February.
Scott is ordered to pay $617,441.64 in restitution and will be put on three years of supervised release after serving his sentence.
Scott, 29, admitted the government could prove he utilized a government-issued credit card to buy nearly $3,000 worth of electronics -- including a Samsung HD TV and two tablet computers -- for his personal benefit. The U.S. Attorney's Office did not specify how Scott stole the rest of the money.
Previously released on bond, Scott was permitted to remain on bond and to voluntarily surrender to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
