Suzette Steward, a special ed teacher at Cinco Ranch Junior High, was selected as one of five finalist for the award after being nominated by Lisa Clements.
In her nomination letter, Clements pointed out that Steward has not only devoted her professional career to teaching children with special needs, but has also opened up a camp for them so they can expand their social skills and abilities. The camp is run on holidays, weekends and summers.
Steward offers teens and young adults an opportunity to work with her at the camp, providing them the opportunity to work with special needs kids and team up with other Katy-area teens.
What little time Steward does have, writes Clements, is spent helping the parents of special needs kids. On weekends, Steward welcomes the kids into her home so their parents can have a break of their own.

Steward and the other finalists will be featured the week of April 29 and viewers will cast their overall vote for top teacher of 2013. The winner will be announced May 6.
