Houston police say an officer was forced to pull his gun and open fire on a burglary suspect overnight in southeast Houston.

It happened around 3:30am an officer's residence on Sage Trail near Sage Orchard. The officer reported seeing a suspicious vehicle driving through the neighborhood. He then observed through his home surveillance cameras a man trying to pull on the car handle and get into his vehicle.

The officer says he then grabbed his weapon and went outside to confront the man. According to investigators, the man had his hands concealed and charged towards the officer. That's when the officer discharged his weapon several times.

It's unknown if the suspect, who got away, was hit. The officer was not hurt during the incident.

The officer's girlfriend and his son were home at the time and were not injured either.

An investigation is underway.
