It happened just before 9am in the 5600 block of Bellaire at Chetwood.
Details are very sketchy at this point but we do know an officer was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. HPD has confirmed the officer has died from injuries sustained in the shooting.
There is at least one person that was killed outside of a business, according to authorities.
Eyewitnesses say there is a suspect in custody but authorities have not confirmed that information.
Witnesses tell us it all started with police chasing a black car. The car sped into a Maaco parking lot and struck a white truck. Witnesses say there was a struggle, and about 10 shots were fired. A second suspect reportedly ran to a neighboring business and tried to hide, but witnesses we spoke to said they flagged down police.
No other details were immediately available.
