Delay granted in trial over 1986 Morton killing

GEORGETOWN, TX

Mark Norwood is charged with capital murder in the death of Christine Morton.

The case drew widespread attention last year when Michael Morton, Christine's husband, was freed from prison after DNA evidence proved his innocence.

The Austin American-Statesman reports that Norwood's attorneys on Friday were granted more time to find a new DNA expert.

The trail had been set for Jan. 7 in San Angelo, but the new date could be as late as June.

Norwood also has been indicted in a separate 1988 slaying of another Austin woman who lived close to the Morton home.
