Fort Bend Co. investigator dies in off-duty accident

KATY, TX

It happened around 12:10am on the Interstate 10 feeder near Pin Oak Road.

Officials said the 2007 Harley-Davidson was driven by Investigator Moses Perez. According to authorities, the bike hit a curb and went skidding to the right side of the feeder road.

Perez suffered head and back injuries. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he underwent surgery Sunday morning. At last check, he was stable.

His passenger was Investigator Shelley Nicodemus. She was thrown from the motorcycle about 30 feet and died at the scene.

Nicodemus, 45, was with FBCSO for about 20 years. She was a member of the Special Crimes Unit in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Perez is a detective in the Burglary and Theft Unit of the Criminal Investigations Division. He has been with the Sheriff's Office almost 20 years.

Katy police are investigating the crash.

Visitation for Nicodemus will be held from 5pm to 8pm Monday at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors at 1201 Fourth St. in Rosenberg.

Her funeral services will be held10am Tuesday at the First Baptist Church at 1117 First St. Rosenberg. Interment will follow at Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery, located on FM 2218 in Rosenberg.

Nicodemus was a member of the Sheriff's Office Special Crimes Unit so one of the charities selected by the family is the Child Advocates of Fort Bend, 5403 Avenue N, Rosenberg, TX 77471. People also may choose to donate through their website at www.cafb.org.

The second charity selected by the family is the Behind the Badge Charities, an organization which provides emergency funds for all law enforcement, fire and first response personnel in Fort Bend County.
