Firefighters were called out to the home on Sunset Boulevard near Ashby around 9pm.
The grill was on a patio on the fourth floor of the building, making it difficult for crews to take water. They had to cut holes in the wall to make sure the fire was out.
The fire did not spread to the home and no one was hurt.
